Ten things you need to know about the Saola

1. The Saola, also known as the "Asian Unicorn", is a tall deer-like animal that was discovered in Vietnam in 1992.

2. Most Saolas can weigh up to 176 to 220 pounds, 59 to 77 inches long, and about 3 and a half feet tall.

3. Both female and male Saolas have two sharp, twenty inch long, parallel horns.

4. There are about 7 saolas per herd.

5. Saolas are active in mornings and later in the afternoon.

6. An average Saola diet is fig leaves, leafy plants, and sometimes berries.

7. Pregnancy for a female Saola lasts 8 to 9 months, like a human.

8. A Saola only lives about 8 to 11 years in the wild.

9. Saolas are herbivores.

10. Saolas were labeled "Critically Endangered" by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), and their numbers are rapidly decreasing.
